Winter Wings: Snowy Owls on the Massachusetts Coastline

Get your long lenses ready — it’s time to meet one of nature’s most mesmerizing winter guests. From November through January, Duxbury Beach in Massachusetts becomes a prime location for photographing Snowy Owls, as they migrate south from the Arctic tundra of upper Canada in search of food and milder weather. These striking white raptors, often associated with the far north, make Duxbury their temporary home — offering a rare chance to observe and photograph them up close against the dramatic coastal landscape.

Duxbury Beach, with its wide-open dunes, coastal marshes, and natural quiet, is one of the best vantage points in the Northeast to spot and photograph these magnificent birds. To access the locations in the dunes, Her Lens Jenny Wiley has the proper OSV vehicle and registration/passes to drive the beach dunes.
